Pack 6 Guidance:

  • Plan this adventure with one of the Pack Service projects - Beach Cleanup or SLO Foodbank (typically Foodbank volunteer day is in March)

Meeting Ideas

  • Gathering Ideas

    • Coin toss game

    • Craft Stick Puzzles (popsicle sticks where the scouts draw a picture on 5-10 sticks placed next to each other).  Mix them up and let another scout try to put them together.

    • Odd or even game.

  • Practice performing the Flag Ceremony for an upcoming Pack Meeting.  Learn how to properly fold a flag.

  • Ideas:

    • Visit the Coast Guard in Morro Bay (recommended).  Coordinate with them for a date and time.  They will talk with the Scouts, show some videos, and let the Scouts tour the boats.

      • If going to the Coast Guard, having a picnic lunch at Morro Rock and follow that with a beach cleanup to meet the service project requirement.  This is a great, convenient way to fulfill requirements 2 and 3.

    • Visit the Cal Fire Station at the Airport

    • Invite the SLO Fire Department to the Den Meeting, or visit another Fire Department.

    • Do not visit the SLO Police Department as a Wolf Scout (this is a Bear activity)

Ideas for Adventure Requirements

  • Have scouts complete requirements at home. Define time in a den meeting for scouts to share what they did for requirements #1 and #2.

Pack 6 Guidance:

  • Let the parents know the requirements and have this adventure done as a family.  It might be timed with the holiday season.

Wolf Howling at the Moon Adventure (Required)

Adventure Goal: Prepare Wolfs to organize a program for an audience and speak in front of a group.

Adventure Requirements:

Complete the following Requirements.

  1. Show you can communicate in at least two different ways.

  2. Work with your den or family to create an original skit.

  3. Work together with your den or family to plan, prepare, and rehearse a campfire program to present at a den meeting or pack program.

  4. Perform your role for a den meeting or pack program.

Pack 6 Guidance:

  • Plan this event with a Pack/Den Campout for the skits - or plan to perform them as part of an upcoming Pack meeting.

  • For skits, what works best is to find skit scripts on-line, print them out and let the scouts rehearse them.  There are many classic Cub Scout skits that are recommended (i.e. Invisible Bench, Little Green Ball).  The skits may be rehearsed at the campout, or at a Den Meeting.  Done at a campout is likely met with more participation and more fun, but it depends on the group.  It can make scouts nervous to perform in front of a Pack meeting.  If a scout doesn't want to participate, they do not need to be forced.  Keep it fun.  Scouts who are shy about performing need to see other scouts and that will break the ice.

Paws on the Path Adventure (Required)

Adventure Goal: Helps Wolves develop their hiking skills and introduces navigation.

Adventure Requirements:

Complete Requirements 1-5. Requirements 6 and 7 are optional.

  1. Show you are prepared to hike safely in any outdoor setting by putting together the Cub Scout Six Essentials to take along on your hike.

  2. Explain what the buddy system is and why we always use it in Cub Scouts. Describe what you should do if you get separated from your group while hiking.

  3. Choose the appropriate clothing to wear on your hike based on the expected weather.

  4. Before hiking, recite the Outdoor Code and the Leave No Trace Principles for Kids with your leader. (This may be combined with Requirement 3 of The Call of the Wild Adventure.) After hiking, discuss how you showed respect for wildlife.

  5. Go on a 1-mile hike with your den or family. Find two interesting things that you've never seen before and discuss with your den or family.

  6. Name two birds, two insects, and/or two other animals that live in your area. Explain how you identified them.

Wolf Running With the Pack Adventure (Required)

Ideas for Adventure Requirements

  1. This entire adventure can be done in a single den meeting. Try a selection of different items to play catch - softball, nerfball, ping pong ball, bean bag, frisbee, football, water baloon, egg, ...

  2. Lay a 2x4 board on the ground and have scouts walk from one end to the other, frontward, backward, and sideways. Then, stand it on its narrow side and support it between your feet at both ends so it does not fall over. Have scouts walk it again.

  3. Remember to warm up and loosen muscles before doing these movements, and do them on a soft surface such as carpet or grass.

  4. Let the den decide which game they'd like to play, from a collection you offer.

  5. Try all four movements and have the scouts decide on the den favorite.

  6. Do this at home.
